E-commerce

E-commerce has revolutionized the way Canadiens do business, but many Canadian entrepreneurs are missing out.

Just 10% of Canadian small businesses were selling online in 2012, according to Statistics Canada. Meanwhile, Canadian online consumer spending shot up 30% to an estimated $21 billion between 2010 and 2012, according to research firm eMarketer.

Easy to get started
The good news is that getting started in e-commerce has never been simpler. No longer do businesses need to invest huge sums in an e-commerce website.

You can create a sales-ready site with no programming knowledge using free services, such as OpenCart and PrestaShop, or inexpensive providers, such as Shopify and eBay Stores.

“When I met the NB Association of CBDC’s they were willing to help and give advice, that’s when I really felt like I had made the choice by opening this business in New Brunswick. You just don’t get that attention in bigger cities.” In Toronto for example there may not have been an economic development agency that is eager for you to open your own business.
