UNICARE Home Health Care

Lisa Williams of UNICARE Home Health Care, describes her journey as a female entrepreneur as risky, challenging and completely life altering. At the same time, she says it is immensely satisfying with great rewards and opportunities beyond all expectations.

Lisa achieved a B.A. in Psychology from Mount Allison, Bachelor of Business Administration and Education Degree from U.N.B.
Thinking she had found the right path as a teacher, the next several years found her travelling with her young son Joshua, to Northern Manitoba, Canada; Beijing, China; and Dubai in the United Arab Emeritus.

It was when Lisa was back home visiting family that her path changed. Her aging grandmother was at the end of her life's journey. Lisa realized there was a need for high quality at-home health care.

Inspired by her grandmother's situation, Lisa caught the entrepreneurial ‘bug’ and UNICARE was born in 2007. What began in a 12x12 room with one employee in her home, has grown into a two-story office and training centre staffed by 7 with more than 160 employees. UNICARE rapidly expanded as far as the Acadian Peninsula with two additional offices. To better serve her clients, Lisa added a 2nd business; UNI-CLEAN SOLUTIONS-an eco-friendly professional cleaning company.

Lisa understands that a healthy community needs active citizenship. She has been a board member and a volunteer with the Newcastle Rotary Club and is a board member of the Miramichi Chamber of Commerce. Lisa is also involved with the provincial board of the New Brunswick Home Support Association. This platform allows Lisa to advocate for seniors' quality of life and to stand up for fair and equitable wages for all working women.

Since day one Lisa has understood that at the heart of UNICARE are the employees! Investing in her workers means confidant and motivated employees, who are proud to serve their clients.
Lisa recently graduated from the ELP program at the Wallace McCain Institute. This is a program developed solely for entrepreneurs.

Lisa believes that she owes it to her employees, clients, herself and her family, to be the best leader possible; to lead by example; to stand up for those who need help; and to give a voice to those who are not being heard. She believes doing this will nurture/create healthier communities for a healthy future.

"I would like to thank you for picking Ben's Clothing for the retail consulting makeover.  I very much enjoyed talking to Barbara.  She has wonderful insites on what to do to refresh my store.  I was extremly excited of the ideas put together thats in my budget for now and also in the near future.

The 1st part of the seminar, had opened my eyes to the reality of my challenges and concerns, statistics, operating cost and marketing which is a huge part that can not be ignored. It's a must to have a list of issues to know it and control it.  This is a large part of my battles that I face but placed them in the back burner.

When Barbara came into my store I wasn't sure what to expect because in the seminar she was leaning towards makeovers for a new store or toronto style store.  I had no idea that a little bit of paint in a different color will bring out what I want to promote.  She had alot of new ideas that are in the budget and I'm going to make it happen!

Thank you again for filling me in with the seminars that are offered.  I'm always willing to get informed and always moving forward."
