How a San Francisco Born Company Grew in New Brunswick

2016, Phenomenal Woman Award

Having grown up in Northern Ontario, moved to Melbourne Australia, Toronto and then San Francisco, Renée has made quite the turn to establish her startup focused agency, Onboardly, in New Brunswick back in 2012. Despite its seemingly distant connection to the valley, she has made strides in growing her company from the East Coast.

Onboardly is a Demand Marketing Agency that helps small and medium-sized companies to fast-track visibility, brand awareness and lead generation; it works at the intersection where public relations, content marketing, and social media meet to deliver marketing that gets results.

As the CEO and Founder of Onboardly, Renée is a dynamic woman entrepreneur who has grown her team of 1 (herself in SF) to 8 full-time employees with a fleshed-out expansion plan. At this moment, Onboardly works primarily with technology startup companies across North America. They do have some European base clients, but their biggest focus is USA by acquiring a market share that focuses on a niche with streamlined services specific to them.

The company’s functional marketing engine includes a lot of content marketing and referrals. They contribute to publications, like Entrepreneur and Kissmetrics, that reach their target audience, publish a lot of their own content that informs and educates this audience, and partners with companies on marketing initiatives in order to extend prospective clients.

To stay abreast of new trends in the industry, Renée mention that they always use the most avant-garde analytics and reporting tools to help both the team and their clients staying ahead of the game. “We read A TON of content on a daily basis to stay abreast of what is happening and changing, and to know where we need to focus attention. We contribute to several leading industry publications that position us as the thought leaders in our space.”

Onboardly is a company that contributes to an increase in the wealth of the region by exporting services to the USA and Europe. “The company was originally incorporated in Ontario, and I moved it to New Brunswick when I moved in here. When I first started Onboardly, I was 7-months pregnant with my first son and, in a matter of two years, I had two babies and grew the business to where it is today. Let’s put that I’ve worked hard to achieve this level of success. Having lived in Moncton for 4 years, now, this is home to me and I want to see this community more successful than ever; so, I have dedicated many hours to expending my company in order to keep it here, in New Brunswick.”

Finally, it is proper to mention that Onboardly is committed to the community. “One of the company’s goals is to mentor and support youth entrepreneurship in the region through organizations like Junior Achievement of New Brunswick and One on One mentoring, and by giving presentation/speech at the local universities and colleges as well as supporting local charities,” said Renée Warren.

"I would like to thank you for picking Ben's Clothing for the retail consulting makeover.  I very much enjoyed talking to Barbara.  She has wonderful insites on what to do to refresh my store.  I was extremly excited of the ideas put together thats in my budget for now and also in the near future.

The 1st part of the seminar, had opened my eyes to the reality of my challenges and concerns, statistics, operating cost and marketing which is a huge part that can not be ignored. It's a must to have a list of issues to know it and control it.  This is a large part of my battles that I face but placed them in the back burner.

When Barbara came into my store I wasn't sure what to expect because in the seminar she was leaning towards makeovers for a new store or toronto style store.  I had no idea that a little bit of paint in a different color will bring out what I want to promote.  She had alot of new ideas that are in the budget and I'm going to make it happen!

Thank you again for filling me in with the seminars that are offered.  I'm always willing to get informed and always moving forward."
