Real Estate Sales: Providing a Personalized Touch and a Significant Experience in the Miramichi

“If you can find a passion to do something you love, you will never work a day in your life.” And this passion and drive is what motivates Lisa McCormack.

Lisa, a certified personal fitness trainer by trade, has always had the entrepreneurial spirit. Lisa, along with her husband and business partner Cory, ran Miramichi Health Club, a successful fitness centre for several years until an excellent opportunity to sell presented itself.

For the past six years Lisa has been self employed working as a Real Estate Agent, she has a thriving business in the Miramichi.  She was awarded Top Producer at Remax 3000 Ltd/Ltee 2007 & 2008, and also Miramichi & Northumberland County for 2008 (based on MLS stats).  With a passion and a love for the Miramichi, Lisa McCormack is proud to run a successful business in her hometown and to be close to her family which she holds dear.

Lisa begins each day by focussing on the important and pursuing it with all of her energy. According to Lisa, “I formulate a daily and weekly list of goals to be completed and have a “to be” rather than “to do” list each day.  Each work day I start my day exercising, reading, and then a nutritious breakfast.  In doing this I start my day on a healthy note and regardless of what comes up for the rest of the day I have given to myself and my health first.”

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit."   Aristotle

In real estate, it is important to differentiate between a house and a home. Lisa wants her clients to purchase a home, an experience that will make them happy and secure. Her personalized approach, vision and determination have set her apart from her competitors. She also knows that by focussing on the customer and providing excellent service, this will help her business through referrals.

To describe Lisa’s business is to say it is often fast paced and competitive. She enjoys being attached to the Remax brand as it is known for quality.

In any job, but in real estate in particular when 40 agents are offering a similar service, it is important to offer a unique service.  From a young age, Lisa was always someone who would beat to their own drum. Lisa’s favourite picture in her office is a photo depicting several white flowers and one red flower. This symbolises her being picked out of a crowd.

Being unique is very important to Lisa. Lisa encourages others to, “Dare to be different. It is ok to be unique. If you have an old idea, find a way to make it new, make it your own!” She also adds, “When you are honest with yourself, nothing can go wrong.”

Lisa describes her life mission as follows: “My life mission is to constantly improve myself and inspire others to do the same. To give of myself physically, emotionally and financially. I will be an inspiration to young people and teach them the importance of believing in themselves, setting goals and creating wealth. I have changed my goal from wanting to be successful, but rather to be significant.  You can be successful on your own, but to be significant you have to take others with you.”

On the rewards of being a business owner Lisa says she enjoys, “Being my own boss and the flexibility! I am very close to my family and I enjoy attending family events and commitments.”
Another reward according to Lisa is helping a person find not only a house but a home. “This is not a transactional business but a relational business.”

Lisa has a positive attitude about business challenges, in fact, she says, “I like challenges.” This savvy entrepreneur is not scared of a roadblock. “I have systems in place, but I enjoy that everyday is different.”
If  Lisa could give advice to aspiring entrepreneurs, “It is important to learn time management skills. If you do not manage time, it will manage you.” Lisa tends to arrive at work early to prepare her “To be list”.  Lisa understands the importance of planning her time and setting goals.

When asked about her role models, Lisa attributes her parents and grandparents. “They instilled in me self-esteem and a drive to succeed, it all starts at home.  My first introduction to sales was as a little girl when my dad would sell Christmas Trees each year to pay for Christmas!  I used to love the excitement of this, and still to this day I help my dad each year sell his trees.  Sometimes I think this is too much work for him, but he loves it, it is quite inspiring to see.  I am so proud of him and my mother for all that they have done for myself and my siblings, they are very special to me!”  She also highlights her uncle Tony Austen for serving as her financial advisor.

Lisa also gained much knowledge and inspiration from both Nido Qubein and Tony Robbins. In fact, Lisa was asked by Mr. Qubein to be is special guest at a prestigious symposium referred to as the IQ group this past May.  As for why he said he invited her, he said, “I saw the potential in her.” When meeting Lisa, her positive attitude and commitment to excellence is evident.

Lisa has many favourable comments to say about Nadine Duguay, development officer for youth and women for the NB Association of CBDCs. “Through Nadine’s MYPIE (a networking group for young professionals), a fabulous opportunity for Miramichi. “It enables business people/entrepreneurs to connect with other business people and to increase recognition of your company.” Lisa, was selected as the MYPIE Professional of the Year 2009, an accolade that she really appreciates.

Lisa believes in giving back to the community. She was a guest speaker at the International Women’s Day event, she talks on “Success versus Significance” at the Community College.  She is a member of the Executive Board of the Miramichi Chamber of Commerce, Toastmasters, and in September along with Nadine Duguay will focus on starting the Junior Achievement program in Miramichi.

Always interested in personal and professional development, Lisa will attend a course in San Francisco on “Public Speaking/Authoring” by Tony Robbins, another course in December and one in the spring, just to mention a few.
