Sterling Creek Stables

Cindy McCloskey is the owner and operator of Sterling Creek Stables, located in Noonan, New Brunswick. Sterling Creek Stables is a multifaceted business, which offers boarding services, riding lessons, therapeutic riding lessons, leasing, horse shows and horse brokerage services.

Fourteen years ago, after working for over two decades for the University of New Brunswick, this dynamic woman decided to launch her business and it has grown leaps and bounds ever since.

Over the years, her business has expanded several times to offer custom services to her clientele. For example, the leasing program helps adults and children make an educated decision before purchasing their own horse or serves as a cost-effective way to allow horse enthusiasts to spend time with their horse without any worries.

She describes herself as “the luckiest person in the world.” According to this dynamic entrepreneur, “I get up every day and do what I love and am fortunate that I was able to turn it into a business. I don’t think of it as a job - it’s a passion.”

“Helping children succeed is one of the most rewarding aspects of being a business owner. Watching children enjoy horses and learn about them, seeing the therapeutic riders learn new skills and feel a sense of accomplishment, is so gratifying.” Sterling Creek Stables has zero tolerance for bullying and disrespect and operates in a safe and positive environment.

Cindy credits much of her success to CBDC Southwest. “The CBDC Southwest board believed in me and I did not let them down. They truly have your small business’ back. They were there for me and saved me from the headache and stress that come with dealing with traditional banks.”

Cindy is married to Jim, a fellow entrepreneur, and they have three grown children, Kelly, Kris and Kyle, and five grandchildren. She is very active in her community and welcomes local preschools, churches and the CBDC Southwest summer entrepreneurship camps to her stable for free tours and pony rides.

If Cindy could offer advice to aspiring entrepreneurs, she would tell them to be passionate about their business, believe in it beyond a shadow of a doubt, pour themselves into it and get a business plan. Also, many people can help achieve a dream.
