Mary Reid is the development officer for business start-up at Women in Business New Brunswick. She brings with her over 10 years of experience in language instruction, and 10+ years supporting newcomers in employment and integration in New Brunswick.
Mary brings both critical and creative thinking to the table, reflected in her formal studies in sciences (biology) from Saint Francis Xavier University and graduate level studies in Applied Linguistics at Brock University. She also holds certificates in teaching English as a second or subsequent language (TESL) and adult education. Guided by a desire to serve diverse communities, her career path quickly diverted from the sciences towards human services. After completing her undergraduate degree, Mary started her career overseas teaching English in Busan, South Korea. Upon her return to Canada, she studied applied linguistics, which led her to teach English to newcomer adult immigrants and refugees in Moncton at the local multicultural association. The quick increase of the Syrian community in Canada in 2016 initiated opportunities for promotion to coordination and supervisory roles in her department. Since then, she has gained experience in many contexts, always connected to supporting the newcomer community in various capacities, while developing extensive connections within the community support network.
Speaking to her strengths and experience in supporting business start-up, Mary has always carried the entrepreneurial spirit, starting with her handmade jewelry, then private language tutoring, as well as online sales.Mary’s connection to the business community in New Brunswick has been developed through her work managing multiple projects and facilitating working groups through her work at the Greater Moncton Local Immigration Partnership. She also built her network through firsthand experience in accessing business support programs during her own entrepreneurial endeavours.
Start-up Development Officer is a wonderful fit, to suit her skillset, abilities, and desire to support women entrepreneurs, on their entrepreneurial path.
