Start Up Competition

Do you have a new business idea or are you considering expanding your current business into new markets?  

Take part in the Women in Business New Brunswick’s online Start Up Competition and test the functionality of your idea!  We warmly welcome applications from current and aspiring women entrepreneurs throughout New Brunswick. Individuals and teams who wish to start a business of their own are welcome to apply.  You can win a nest egg to test your business idea, and in addition, you get to participate in group training workshops to help develop your entrepreneurial mindset.

Date: Training Workshops begin January 17th and are ongoing through February, with Final Pitch March 2023

Focus: Women entrepreneurs

Amount you can win: 1st place - $2,000

                                  2nd place - $1,000

                                  Student - $500

Eligibility

1) New business idea

Are you a woman with an idea for a new product, service or business?

2) Expanding your business into new markets

Alternatively, do you want to expand into new markets with your existing woman-led business?

For this competition, a maximum number of 15 ideas will be selected.  Successful applicants will be notified.

Criteria

  • Teams and Individuals must be based in New Brunswick
  • Teams must consist from one up to five people consisting of individuals with a joint business idea.  Teams must be comprised with a majority of women
  • Idea submission should consist of a short description, which should be supplied within our online template and includes the possibility to submit any relevant supporting information
  • Only original ideas will be accepted and should not breach any existing intellectual property rights
  • Successful ideas must add value compared to existing services
  • Applicants must agree to be interviewed by the selection panel during the online pitching event in March 2023.
  • Successful applicants must be willing to have Women in Business NB publicise their participation in the competition
  • Any proprietary information will remain confidential
  • In addition to the funding prize, successful teams will benefit from informal support and guidance from Women in Business NB
  • The decision of the selection panel will be final. Team members must be competent in communicating in French or English.

Application instructions

  1. The online application must be submitted no later than December 14, 2022.
  2. A maximum number of 15 ideas will be selected. All participants will be notified by December 20, 2022 and available to participate in the competition (workshops, exchanges, etc.) from that date onward.
  3. Following the selection process, participants will attend and participate in online training workshops and prepare their presentations for the online pitching competition.
  4. Online pitching event will take place in March 2023.
