Q: How did you choose your business name?

SD: To reflect the often-misunderstood profession “Ergo = Ergotherapy = Work” and the bilingual component of the business “O.T. = Occupational Therapy.” When Ergo-Consult-O.T. was founded, occupational therapy clinics could be counted on one hand, therefore it was essential that we were talked about.

Q: How would you describe your business?

A: Today, Transmed employs nearly 70 people (99% women) and about 20 freelancers, all working remotely, mainly in New Brunswick and Quebec, with the exception of three employees at head office.

Since its inception, Transmed has been providing medical transcription services to many clients, mainly in Quebec. They are mostly hospitals, such as Centre hospitalier universitaire de Québec (CHUQ), McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont, Hôpital de la Cité-de-la-Santé and many other health care facilities and medical clinics.

Since 2008, Transmed has also offered translation services from English to French and from French to English in a number of fields, such as healthcare, tourism, agriculture, and administration. The majority of clients in this sector are from New Brunswick (New Brunswick Translation Bureau, Dialogue NB, CBDC, ACOA, AFMNB). However, about 20% of our volume comes from other provinces (Government of Yukon, Dynacare in Ontario, Mount Saint Vincent University in Nova Scotia and many more).

Q: What are your current markets?

JB: For film and TV (writing and producing): I was trained as a producer at a fund in Berlin, Germany that managed over 100 million dollars a year and also went to film school and worked in the U.S. I strategically sought out a bird's-eye view of the global market at a young age. As a result, I am focused on projects for the global market with an emphasis on partners in the U.S., Canada, Latin America and various countries in the EU.

Marketing/Brand Strategy: Local as well as global clients online. I’ve worked with Denny’s Restaurants as well as numerous other international start-ups.

Q: What are your greatest achievements?

KM:
I would say marking our 40th year in business despite many serious setbacks (a plant fire in the mid-1990s, several economic downturns, and the death of company founder in 1999).

The development of a “game changer” ambulance design that has been embraced by Canadian and U.S. buyers due to its lightweight and spacious design that provides a very safe and operationally cost-efficient product. Ambulance innovation in the U.S. has been stagnant for more than 30 years. Our products are recognized as market disruptors.
